Nikola Tesla's Beautiful Croatia

The premise is Nikola Tesla, playing tour guide, beaming an audience across Croatia as bolts of lightning. One moment they’re standing among gladiators in the Pula amphitheatre. The next, they’re drifting through the blue-lit stillness of the sea cave on Biševo, or riding the coast road beside a Rimac Nevera, or underwater, or arriving in Dubrovnik by historic sailing ship. It’s a lot of ground to cover, literally, and Europa-Park needed a production partner who could actually cover it.

Softmachine took that on directly. The crew scouted and filmed on location across Croatia, then moved into a green-screen studio to shoot Tesla and his assistant Erik separately, building CGI for the apparatus and towers that tie the whole journey together. Three very different kinds of footage, real locations, live performance, and computer animation, had to end up feeling like one continuous world.

That’s where the harder work happened. Editing it all into something coherent, mixing the sound, and finishing the film to a standard that could run permanently at one of Europe’s largest parks, then handling delivery and installation on site. Nothing here was handed off in pieces to separate vendors. One team carried it from the first location scout to the moment it started playing for guests.

It’s still playing today, part of the regular experience in Europa-Park’s Croatian-themed area.
